Dover Youth Hockey Association is excited to announce a new partnership with Bauer to introduce young athletes and their families to the sport of hockey. DYHA becomes just the second organization in the United States to launch The First Shift, a program designed to “grow the game” by making hockey fun, accessible and affordable for those trying the sport for the first time.
The First Shift program is designed to give players an opportunity to try the game at a very reasonable cost, outfitting them in full hockey gear and providing a 6-week hockey skills session for just $299. The program’s goal is to offer a positive, fun environment for players to learn the game. It also offers new hockey parents the opportunity to learn about the game- from equipment to player safety to rules- surrounded by other new hockey parents.
The Dover Youth Hockey First Shift program will kick off at 6:00 on Monday, November 20th at the McConnell Center in downtown Dover with an equipment fitting and information night. Each participant will be outfitted with brand new Bauer gear, including helmets, skates, pads, stick and bag that is theirs to keep. Fitting will be done by representatives from Bauer who will help to ensure proper fit and explain to parents how to properly size gear for their player. Players and parents will also participate in an information session, learning some of the basics of the game both on and off the ice.
Once outfitted, players will attend a 6-week Introduction to Hockey program that will be held on Sunday mornings at the Dover Arena starting on December 3rd. The sessions will be run by DYHA and will follow a program plan focused on teaching fundamental hockey skills in a positive, fun environment.
Pre-registration is required and participation is limited. To register a player, please visit: www.doverhockey.org/thefirstshift

Dover Youth Hockey Association held its 2nd annual golf tournament on Friday, Sept 15th at the Links at Outlook Golf Course. The tournament honored two members of the DYHA family, Scott French and Michael Hower Sr, and raised money for the DYHA scholarship fund.
A field of nearly 20 foursomes and a jovial bunch of volunteers braved the wet conditions for a great afternoon of golf that included several on-course contests, some impressive drives and a few less-than-impressive golf shots. The golfers and volunteers finished the day with a great dinner overlooking the 18th hole and a raffle that featured signed sticks and jerseys from the Boston Bruins and other great prizes.
DYHA would like to thank all of the golfers, volunteers and sponsors who helped raise close to $6000 for the player scholarship fund!
