Coaching Director

Dover Youth Hockey Association (DYHA) is looking for a Coaching Director to join its team.

Position Summary

The Coaching Director will report directly to the Director of Hockey operations and be tasked with creating a consistency across the organization for all on-ice and off-ice hockey related hockey programs.  This is an important position that requires great attention to detail, flexibility, and thoughtful communication.

Primary Job Responsibilities 

  • Responsible for setting a first class experience from start to end of season

  • Setting coaching expectations

  • Verify all coaches are at proper level via USA Hockey Coaching Education

    • USA Hockey 1-4

    • Safe Sport

  • Responsible for setting philosophy for Coaches, Players, Officials & Parents

  • Responsible for all practice development (working with Director of Hockey Operations)

    • Liaison between hired skills provider to make sure DYHA is leveraging this relationship

    • Responsible for supporting and helping coaches plan for all non-skills provider practice sessions and any off-ice conditioning sessions

    • Responsible for making sure all coaching staffs for shared ice-time are on same page and have a well-developed practice plan that is age-appropriate

  • Responsible for organizing a playbook with age appropriate practice plans, drills and leverage the skills provider additions into the playbook.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Strong coaching, management and communication skills are a must. This position requires very close relationship with Director of Hockey Operations.

Time Commitment & Compensation

This is not a full time role, although there will be times leading up to the season start that will require more time and planning. DYHA is a non-profit organization and rely on volunteers across the organization. This important position is being put in place to support a transitional year with the new skills provider. The BOARD is looking for a strong candidate with skills and experience that meet the goals of the position. For candidates meeting the required skills and experience, the board will consider volunteer, player tuition credits or stipend as compensation.
