The DYHA Mite Majors (2006) completed an inspired weekend of hockey with a runner-up finish in the NRI Vikings Thanksgiving Tournament, in Smithfield, RI.

The Mite Majors began tourney play losing a hard fought game to the South Shore Kings (EHF Elite 2006), 6-2.  Their second contest featured a dominant victory over the team from Ludlow Hockey Association (Greater Springfield Mass) winning 7-0.

That set up a heated battle with the EHF Tier 1 Providence Jr Friars (2006), with the winner headed to the finals.  Despite the Mite Majors carrying a large majority of play, 25-10 shot advantage, the contest remained scoreless late into the third period.  With less than 1 minute remaining the Stars broke the deadlock in exciting fashion, holding on for the victory over their EHF Tier 1 opponent, 1-0, and earning a spot in the tournament finals.

Unfortunately their run ended in the finals, as they lost again to the South Shore Kings (EHF Elite 2006).  It was a close game throughout, as they trailed by only a 4-2 margin midway through the 3rd period before eventually falling by a final score of 7-2.  It was a noteworthy effort against an EHF Elite team, despite the tourney finals loss.   The tournament experience was extremely valuable for the DYHA Mite Majors and they all look forward to many similar experiences in the future.
